{"id":4395,"date":"2025-02-07T12:13:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T10:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hconline.co.za\/?p=4395"},"modified":"2025-07-24T08:58:55","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T08:58:55","slug":"bail-application-postponed-for-two-accused-in-putco-bus-arson-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.highveldchronicle.co.za\/wp64\/bail-application-postponed-for-two-accused-in-putco-bus-arson-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Bail application postponed for two accused in PUTCO bus arson case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SIYABUSWA \u2013<\/strong> The State has been granted a postponement in the bail application of two men accused of torching 51 Putco buses in Mpumalanga, delaying their bid for bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isaac Mabena and Luthando Skhosana made their second appearance before the Siyabuswa Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 06, 2025 after police linked them to last month\u2019s attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the charge sheet, the two allegedly broke into four Putco depots, assaulting two employees \u2014 one was struck over the head with a chair, while the other was shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They argued that their release would serve the interests of justice, a claim the State completely disagrees with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the appearance was brief, the atmosphere in the packed courtroom was tense as community members were fixated on the two accused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mabena and Skhosana stood before the magistrate, visibly anxious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They asked to be allowed to collect their belongings from family, but the focus quickly shifted to their bail bid \u2014 a move the State has strongly rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court agreed, granting the State more time to build its case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGentlemen, this matter is remanded until the 13th of February for a formal bail application. You remain in custody.
