EMALAHLENI \u2013 eMalahleni mayor Vusi Nhlapho has made the inspiring decision to go back to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not just any school, but the very school where he began his secondary education more than 30 years ago. On January 15, 2025, Mayor Nhlapho visited Empucukweni Secondary School as part of the Back-to-School Programme, aiming to inspire learners to approach the new academic year with determination and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He encouraged the learners to strive for success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuccess is built on perseverance and hard work,\u201d he told the new Grade 8 learners and the matric class of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mayor shared personal stories of overcoming challenges, motivating the learners while emphasising the importance of discipline and commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his visit, Mayor Nhlapho launched a mentorship initiative, pledging to guide three learners throughout the year. His efforts were bolstered by MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Jerry Djiana, who committed to mentoring two learners. Ward 5 Councillor Walter Nompumelelo Moela and Ward 8 Councillor Xolani Nkosi also pledged to mentor one learner each, reflecting a collective effort to uplift the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis year brings new opportunities, and I am ready to support our learners and teachers in achieving great things,\u201d said Pitrus Magagula, the headmaster of Empucukweni Secondary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The teachers\u2019 enthusiasm was evident, with many expressing their dedication to helping learners succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visit also celebrated the school\u2019s outstanding 2024 matric pass rate of 98.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo all learners in eMalahleni, this is your year to shine,\u201d said Mayor Nhlapho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
