DELMAS –<\/strong> The Kasi Chronicle podcast was launched in 2022 with the aim of keeping local news relevant to the youth. Pollen Mthombeni, the marketing director of the Kasi Chronicle podcast, highlighted the podcast’s mission for the people of Delmas. “When people think of a Kasi, it’s often associated with crime and unemployment. We wanted to provide another perspective on what the Kasi is all about,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khulekani Ncube, the producer of the podcast, shed light on the budget constraints they face. “The podcast operates on a zero budget with no sponsors. When we host podcast episodes, we often have to contribute money from our own pockets. Although we have had promises from sponsors to fund us with data for social media uploads and research, they have yet to come through with their assistance,” he explained. Ncube further detailed their operational setup. “We use the backroom of my house to host the podcast episodes. Additionally, we have partnered with SS Mhlongo restaurant for our photoshoots, and Kulase allows us to use their space for photoshoots as well,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tshepo Msiza, also known as ‘Troy’, the host of the podcast, addressed the challenges they face. “Our podcast lacks resources. Sometimes we don’t even have a microphone to record the sessions, but currently, we managed to buy one microphone. Additionally, some of our guests don’t show up for the podcast session after we’ve already set everything up for them,” he commented. Msiza also discussed their subscriber numbers. “We are focused on improving our work and not fixating on the number of subscribers on our channel. We recognize that we are still in the early stages of production, and our goal is for the podcast to eventually generate income,” he added.
